Spiced Beef In Yogurt

Makes 4 servings

1 pound round steak thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cups of plain yogurt
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, sliced
1-1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1-1/2 teaspoons tumeric
1 teaspoon garam masala

Place the beef between 2 sheets of waxed paper and pound thin.

Rub the beef with salt and cut into serving sized pieces.

Place in bowl and cover with yogurt. Cover and marinate over night in the refrigerator.

Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Add onion and garlic Cook gently for 4-5 minutes until soft. Add the spices and cook for another 3 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add the beef and yogurt marinade to the pan and stir well. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and simmer for 1-1/2 hour or until the meat is tender.

Serve over rice. (not included in the nutritional information)
